Church Alliance Thanks Congressional Champions of Church Plan Clarification Act

Representatives of the Church Alliance visited Washington D.C. during the spring of 2016 to personally thank members of Congress whose work was critical to the enactment of the Church Plan Clarification Act (CPCA) provisions, as part of the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015.

Barbara Boigegrain, chair of the Church Alliance and general secretary of Wespath Benefits and Investments (formerly the General Board of Pension and Health Benefits of The United Methodist Church), met with and presented plaques of appreciation to: Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Rob Portman (R-OH)—both original Senate co-sponsors of the CPCA, and Representatives Richard Neal (D-MA) and Pat Tiberi (R-OH)—both original House co-sponsors of the CPCA.  She also presented plaques to policy staff for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI), and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT), and to Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR).  Ms. Boigegrain thanked them on behalf of the Church Alliance for their efforts and commitments to the retirement security of millions of church workers.

Dr. O.S. Hawkins, member of the Church Alliance and president and CEO of GuideStone Financial Resources, visited Washington D.C. to personally thank other members of Congress who were instrumental in the enactment of the CPCA provisions.  Dr. Hawkins met with and presented an appreciation plaque to Representative Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, thanking him on behalf of the Church Alliance for his efforts and support.
